Jaroslav Halak stopped 22 shots and Jamie Langenbrunner scored in the second period to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 1-0 win over the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night. Halak recorded his fifth shutout of the season and 21st of his career. He improved to 15-8-5 and has started six of the last seven games.

Jarome Iginla had a goal and an assist to help Calgary Flames beat the Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 Friday night. Olli Jokinen scored in the first period and Jay Bouwmeester added a power-play goal in the second to help Calgary shake off two straight home losses. Brent Seabrook scored for Chicago, which has lost five straight, including an 8-4 loss in Edmonton the night before.

Mark Eaton's latest goal was as important to the New York Islanders as it was rare for him to score. Eaton scored 2:35 into overtime in his 600th NHL game to give the Islanders a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators on Friday night. The 34-year-old defenseman took a pass from Milan Jurcina and put the puck into an open right side for his 24th NHL goal -- his first since Nov.

Florida's Kris Versteeg didn't feel well going into Friday's game. He felt much better afterward. Sean Bergenheim scored a go-ahead goal in the second period and the Florida Panthers beat the Winnipeg Jets 2-1 Friday night. Versteeg also scored a goal for Florida, while Scott Clemmensen stopped 20 shots.

Sam Gagner was still having trouble Friday believing his name is in the Edmonton Oilers record book alongside the likes of Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey. Gagner moved himself into such lofty company after registering a club record-tying eight points in Edmonton's 8-4 win over the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday.

Darryl Sittler knows exactly how Sam Gagner felt. "Everything falls into place," he said. "Every shot you take pretty well goes in or you make a pass and the guy completes it. It's magical those types of nights. They don't happen very often." Gagner finished with eight points -- four goals, four assists -- in Edmonton's 8-4 victory over Chicago on Thursday night.

New Jersey Devils forward Patrik Elias has been fined $2,500, the maximum allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for boarding Montreal Canadiens forward Mike Blunden during a 5-3 win on Thursday. The incident occurred at 18:54 of the first period. A minor penalty for boarding was assessed on the play.

The Pittsburgh Penguins signed center Joe Vitale to a two-year, $1.1 million contract extension on Friday, locking up a 26-year-old who has earned a regular spot in the lineup this season. Vitale has three goals and seven assists while dressing for 44 of Pittsburgh's 51 games, filling a third- or fourth-line role and serving on the Penguins' fourth-ranked penalty-killing unit.

The Detroit Red Wings have had the hot hand in NHL shootouts this season. Pavel Datsyuk and Jiri Hudler scored shootout goals, and the Red Wings padded their lead over Vancouver in the Western Conference standings with a 4-3 victory against the Canucks on Thursday night. Detroit has won all six of its games decided by that tiebreaker and it's just building more confidence.
