Here are my top five NFC teams to watch in 2012: San Francisco 49ers The 49ers were only an eyelash away from representing the NFC in Super Bowl 46. Unfortunately, Kyle Williams caught a huge case of fumbilitis at the worst possible time.

The San Francisco 49ers and the rest of the NFL officially saw the end of the football season upon the completion of Super Bowl XLVI. Watching the New York Giants beat the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl was probably a difficult yet teachable moment for most of the 49ers.

Ballard suffered torn ACL in Super Bowl, Giants announce He was on crutches and in obvious pain, but that was all secondary in nature for New York Giants tight end Jake Ballard Tuesday during the huge parade and rally that honored the team's win in Sunday's Super Bowl.
There has been some casual discussion between the 49ers and the representatives for quarterback Alex Smith about a potential contract extension for the quarterback, but talks haven't really progressed yet to the substantive stage.
For all the talk about how the Niners might be one of the teams interested in Peyton Manning if (when?) he is released by Indianapolis, the preference seems to be re-signing Smith to a long-term contract. He signed only a one-year deal for 2011.
One of the big questions besides the obvious one, money, is the term of the contract. There are rumblings San Francisco officials prefer a three-year contract, while Smith's camp would like something longer, more like five years.

Despite his diminutive stature, for a moment no one was bigger than 5-foot-8 (1.73-meter) Danny Woodhead. The New England running back's 4-yard touchdown reception in the final minute of the first half gave the New England Patriots a 10-9 halftime lead in the Super Bowl. "I was able to get open, and Tom (Brady) did a good job of putting the ball right on me," he said.

Before this award was even announced, I knew in my mind that there was no other choice except Jim Harbaugh of the San Francisco 49ers. Some analysts had stated that Harbaugh was the undeniable pick and what he was able to accomplish was incredible.

Fans of the Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, New England Patriots or Philadelphia Eagles will likely disagree with most of the statements posted below. The 2011 New York Giants were truly America's Team. No, they weren't the most popular or most-watched team in the country...

The Dallas Cowboys had two former members available for the Hall of Fame in 2012 in Bill Parcells and Charles Haley. Neither made it, although it is pretty much assured they will both enter the Hall one day. 2013 is the year they should make it in although it will be a crowed Hall...

The strangest coaching decision during Super Bowl week wasn't when Bill Belichick ordered his defence to act like matadors and wave Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw by for a touchdown from six yards out with less than a minute left in the game. That's just the one people will remember. The really odd one came four days earlier when the uber-prepared Patriots coach, anticipating a halftime show that would dictate a 30-minute intermission rather than the usual 12, ordered his players to take a break from practising football and practice sitting in the locker-room for a half-hour instead.
