The Jaguars started a new era with an old name as their new head coach.
Back in 2003, former owner Wayne Weaver picked Jack Del Rio as the coach over Mike Mularkey, then the offensive coordinator in Pittsburgh.
This time, under new owner Shad Khan and general manager Gene Smith, about to finish his fourth year, they picked Mularkey even though his career has hit some speed bumps in the last decade.
He was 14-18 in two years as a head coach in Buffalo and then quit after going 5-11 in the 2005 season with J.P. Losman at quarterback. That led to general manager Tom Donahoe getting fired and Marv Levy taking over as the team's chief executive.
Mularkey decided to quit even though he knew he might never get another chance.

Five years ago, Tom Coughlin still didn't get it. The New York Giants' head coach was still a caricature to many; a control-obsessed head coach who adopted the surface methods of tough-minded coaches like Vince Lombardi and Bill Parcells. But ? Continue reading ?

Trying to do his best "Tebowing," Alec Baldwin got a bit of help on stage. The host of "NFL Honors" on NBC was kneeling down when Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow stepped up and showed Baldwin how it's really done. "Bless you, Tim," Baldwin responded. That capped a nearly 10-minute monologue Saturday night on the eve of the Super Bowl as The Associated Press...

To paraphrase Mark Twain in football terms, reports of Peyton Manning's demise have been greatly exaggerated. Whether he will return to the Indianapolis Colts, however, is a topic that continues to be discussed. Monday, team owner Jim Irsay vehemently said he has not decided to...

It was a potentially perfect fit that never happened. But Shahid Khan said if he owned the Jacksonville Jaguars at the time of the draft two years ago the Jaguars definitely would have selected Tim Tebow. "100 percent I would have," Khan, who purchased the team for a...

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew is at the Super Bowl site under less-than-ideal circumstances for him (i.e., he isn't playing in the game), but that doesn't mean that "Pocket Hercules" came to Indianapolis without a plan. We caught up ? Continue reading ?

Newly named Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio may have come across as "Mile High" during his introductory press conference on Monday afternoon, but if he had listened to his inner circle, he would have never taken the job. ? Continue reading ?

Fans of the Dallas Cowboys, New York Jets, New England Patriots or Philadelphia Eagles will likely disagree with most of the statements posted below. The 2011 New York Giants were truly America's Team. No, they weren't the most popular or most-watched team in the country...

The Dallas Cowboys had two former members available for the Hall of Fame in 2012 in Bill Parcells and Charles Haley. Neither made it, although it is pretty much assured they will both enter the Hall one day. 2013 is the year they should make it in although it will be a crowed Hall...

The strangest coaching decision during Super Bowl week wasn't when Bill Belichick ordered his defence to act like matadors and wave Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw by for a touchdown from six yards out with less than a minute left in the game. That's just the one people will remember. The really odd one came four days earlier when the uber-prepared Patriots coach, anticipating a halftime show that would dictate a 30-minute intermission rather than the usual 12, ordered his players to take a break from practising football and practice sitting in the locker-room for a half-hour instead.

Jason Witten is one in a long line of great Dallas Cowboys' tight ends, following the footsteps of Mike Ditka, Billy Joe Dupree, Doug Cosbie and Jay Novacek. He is also on his way to becoming one of the best tight ends in the history of the NFL but his problem is that the man...
