Mike Leach sat across from his accuser Saturday as Craig James gave sworn testimony in the former coach's lawsuit against Texas Tech. James, whose complaint of mistreatment of his son led to Leach's firing, declined to comment as he walked into the university's administration building before his deposition.

Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli was suspended Friday for the upcoming season by coach Chip Kelly after pleading guilty to second-degree burglary in the theft of a pair of laptops and a guitar from a campus fraternity. Masoli, who had been mentioned as a potential Heisman candidate, will remain on scholarship with the Ducks.

Music City Bowl extends SEC partnership (AP)

The Music City Bowl has extended its partnership with the Southeastern Conference through the 2013 season. The bowl in Nashville matches teams from the SEC and the Atlantic Coast Conference typically between the Christmas and New Year's holidays. The bowl announced the extension Friday. California has hired former NFL players Akili Smith and Ronnie Bradford as administrative assistants on the coaching staff. Coach Jeff Tedford said Saturday that Smith will work with the offensive coaches and Bradford will work with the defense. Smith spent the past two seasons as the quarterbacks coach at Grossmont College in San Diego.

Terrence Cody showed NFL teams he had the willpower to shed excess pounds, while Rolando McClain demonstrated his willingness to push through health issues. Mount Cody, a two-time All-America nose guard, weighed in at 349 pounds at Alabama's pro day on Wednesday with representatives from all 32 NFL teams present.

While 11 of his former University of Maryland teammates pressed to make an impression on NFL scouts, offensive tackle Bruce Campbell smiled for the television cameras and happily answered questions from reporters.
