Every once in a while, the Grizzlies will have a game that shows them the way they should play. Saturday night's nine-point loss to the Jazz—a misleading point margin if there ever were one—represents Exhibit A.

When it was over, the Grizzlies realized the error of their ways.

"They were physical," Memphis guard Mike Conley said, "and we started crying to the referees too much looking for fouls. We should have stayed aggressive."

But the young Grizzlies didn't. When it got physical, Memphis didn't push back.

"You have to play every possession with your toughness shoes on, mentally and physically," Grizzlies coach Marc Iavaroni said. "They chip away at you.

The short-handed Utah Jazz got defensive against the young Memphis Grizzlies. Mehmet Okur had a season-high 23 points, leading the Jazz to a 103-94 victory over Memphis on Saturday night. The Jazz were without guard Deron Williams, leading scorer and rebounder Carlos Boozer and key reserve Kyle Korver, but still managed to overcome the offensive loss with a strong defense effort.

The Dallas Mavericks restored their home-court advantage, thanks to big games from Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Kidd. Nowitzki had 25 points and 10 rebounds, Kidd contributed 18 points and 13 boards, and the Mavericks beat the Memphis Grizzlies 91-76 on Friday night to halt an 0-4 home start. "That's why you have star players, to play like stars," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said.

A three-day layoff was just what the Memphis Grizzlies needed to rejuvenate their struggling offense. Rudy Gay scored 22 points and Memphis shot a season-high 54 percent to help the Grizzlies snap a four-game losing streak with a 109-94 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Tuesday night. On a poor shooting night, the Milwaukee Bucks never gave up, using hustle to overcome their offensive woes. Ramon Sessions had 20 points, including a pair of free throws that put Milwaukee ahead with 42.3 seconds left in overtime, and the Bucks held on to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 101-96 on Friday night.

The New York Knicks have never had a game shooting 3-pointers like Wednesday night. The Knicks set a franchise record with 19 3-pointers, hitting 56 percent from beyond the arc, and Wilson Chandler scored a career-high 27 points in New York's 132-103 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. Rookie O.J. Mayo did all he could to rally Memphis in the fourth quarter against the Phoenix Suns. Unfortunately, the Grizzlies had no answer for Leandro Barbosa. Mayo had 19 of his game-high 33 points in the final period, but the victory went to the fifth-year veteran known as the Brazilian Blur and Phoenix as the Suns won 107-102 on Monday night.

Chauncey Billups is learning on the job. Meanwhile, the Denver Nuggets keep winning. Carmelo Anthony scored 24 points, Billups had 16 points and 10 assists and the Nuggets beat the Memphis Grizzlies 100-90 on Sunday night. Billups, who came to Denver last week in a deal that sent Allen Iverson to the Detroit Pistons, said he's still getting used to his new teammates.
