The Royals have a new center fielder and possibly a new leadoff hitter after acquiring Coco Crisp in a Nov. 19 trade with the Boston Red Sox.
Crisp, who hit .283 with 55 runs, seven home runs, 41 RBIs and 20 stolen bases in 2008, was acquired in exchange for right-hander Ramon Ramirez. The reliever was 3-2 with a 2.64 ERA in 71 games as a primary right-handed setup man for closer Joakim Soria.
Crisp's arrival means center fielder David DeJesus, who led the club with a .307 average, will likely shift to left. Crisp will in all likelihood replace DeJesus at the top of the order. DeJesus batted leadoff in 105 games last season. Manager Trey Hillman, however, was non-committal on the positions and where the players would hit. The Royals like Crisp's bat, speed—20...

Miguel Olivo and the Royals exercised mutual contract options Monday, keeping the catcher with Kansas City. Olivo batted .255 with 12 homers, 22 doubles and 41 RBIs in 84 games this season. This year's World Series will be remembered for a rain delay that caused a game to end close to 2 a.m., a quagmire that led to a suspended game and a three-inning sprint to the finish. Strange, indeed. Still, Philadelphia Phillies versus Tampa Bay Rays also had its share of exciting moments, courtesy of some remarkable young players.

The Marlins were shopping Jacobs because he was due a big raise in arbitration, and have plenty of options at first base. In exchange, they got a right-hander who throws in the mid-90s.
