The 2012 baseball season is soon approaching and unless the Texas Rangers make a surprise move or two it appears that they are set with the players that they have. So I've gone over individual stats and predicted what I believe the lineup will look like on opening day.

Having won the first two AL pennants in franchise history, the Texas Rangers want to keep their key players around for a while. Slick-fielding shortstop Elvis Andrus and the Rangers finalized a $14.4 million, three-year contract Wednesday. The deal covers his three years of salary arbitration eligibility, and Texas would like to discuss an even longer agreement with agent Scott Boras.

Once again, Josh Hamilton has lost one of his daily battles for sobriety.
On Feb. 3, Hamilton confirmed reports that he was drinking in a Dallas bar earlier in the week. He also said he had deceived teammate Ian Kinsler, who had joined him to keep him company.
Hamilton, who also had a slipup in January 2009, said he was in Dallas to attend to a family issue. He went out by himself for dinner and ordered a drink, then called Kinsler to join him. He said he did not drink in front of Kinsler, and Kinsler was unaware Hamilton had been drinking. Hamilton said Kinsler took him back to where he was staying and asked him if he needed to be accompanied upstairs. Growing up in Texas, I never had a baseball team that I could root for. Sure, the Houston Astros might have a decent season, but they always seemed to ruin their chances of winning as the season progressed. The Texas Rangers were a joke.

The Texas Rangers were facing the possibility of three arbitration hearings before agreeing to terms with Elvis Andrus on a three-year contract Tuesday night . The Rangers have not had an arbitration case go before an arbitrator since Lee Stevens in 2000.

There are still many unanswered questions with Josh Hamilton and the Texas Rangers, but a few issues were taken care of on Tuesday. On Tuesday, the Rangers announced the hiring of Shayne Kelley who will operate in a support role for Hamilton.

The Texas Rangers have not been to arbitration with a player since 2000. However, two straight World Series appearances will change things, regardless of how much a player wants to play for Texas or how much the Rangers want to keep a player on the roster.

The Texas Rangers were getting closer than they would have liked to their arbitration date with Elvis Andrus, but that will no longer be an issue. Not only will it not be an issue for this year, but it will also not be an issue for any of Andrus' arbitration years.
