The Orioles' rotation heading into spring training was likely to have one sure thing, right-hander Jeremy Guthrie, and four question marks.
Then Baltimore traded Guthrie to the Rockies on Feb. 6.
Baltimore acquired right-handed starter Jason Hammel and right-handed reliever Matt Lindstrom in exchange for Guthrie.
The trade occurred on the day when the Orioles were schedule to oppose Guthrie in an arbitration hearing. Guthrie, who turns 33 on April 8, had sought a $10.25 million salary, while Baltimore had offered him $7.25 million. The pitcher and the Rockies settled on a one-year, $8.2 million deal in Guthrie's final season before he becomes eligible for free agency.
Guthrie's agent, Brodie Van Wagenen, told the Baltimore Sun.

Bergesen asked for a raise from $434,000 to $1.2 million during Wednesday's hearing, and the Orioles argued he should be paid $800,000. A decision by arbitrators Robert Herzog, Mark Burstein and Elizabeth Neumeier is expected Thursday.

The Baltimore Orioles made an unthinkable trade on Feb. 6, 2012. Now, do not get me wrong, I think we all knew that Jeremy Guthrie was going to be heading out of town. As one of few tradable assets, I did expect to receive a big-league position player or two decent prospects.

Aside from 2010, Aubrey Huff has not had a strong season since 2008 when he played with the Baltimore Orioles. Everything looked great when he put up a fantastic season in 2010 for the San Francisco Giants, but it all fell apart in 2011.
