The A's are in the midst of a free agent battle, an unusual position for the usually low-spending team.
Oakland is one of several clubs—including the cross-bay rival Giants—vying for shortstop Rafael Furcal. Agent Paul Kinzer has confirmed the A's interest, and adding a shortstop makes sense for the A's, even with Bobby Crosby still on the roster.
Crosby, who has been hurt much of his career and who has underperformed the past two seasons when healthy, only has one year left on his deal. The A's have no sure-fire shortstop prospects waiting in the wings, at least not everyday big-league shortstops. Adrian Cardenas, acquired in July's Joe Blanton deal, has played short in the Arizona Fall League the past two months, but he appears to be best suited to second...

Lew Wolff has a way to shorten baseball's postseason: Make the first round best-of-one. "I'd make it one-game-and-you're-out for the first series," the Oakland Athletics owner said Wednesday. "It would be exciting. It would be great." Begun in 1995, the division series has been a best-of-five competition.

Joe Girardi said this week he'd enjoy showing free agents around the new Yankee Stadium. CC Sabathia is one of the players the New York manager has in mind for a tour of the spacious clubhouse, players lounge, indoor batting cage and underground hot tub. Free-agent season opened Friday with the Yankees planning to give Sabathia a record offer for a pitcher.

The Oakland Athletics have completed their trade for star outfielder Matt Holliday from the Colorado Rockies, acquiring the big bat they wanted for the middle of their lineup. The Rockies receive right-handed reliever Huston Street, lefty starter Greg Smith and promising outfielder Carlos Gonzalez from the A's.

Oakland Athletics owner Lew Wolff remains optimistic about building a state-of-the-art ballpark in Fremont despite challenges and a shaky economic situation. "I think we can get it done, but the frustration of the process sometimes gets to me," Wolff said Monday at a regional luncheon of the Associated Press Sports Editors.
10 Nov 2008 at 3:48pm
Star outfielder Matt Holliday appears headed to the Oakland Athletics in a surprising move for a franchise known more for shedding stars than adding them. Two people familiar with the proposed deal said Monday the A's and the Colorado Rockies have reached a tentative agreement. Both people spoke on condition of anonymity because the trade had not been finalized and details were still in the works.

Giants (2) -- Amazing seats, amazing price 20 games
As good as it gets without a charter seat license -- 2 seats in section 315, row 4, right behind home plate. As longtime season ticket holders we still have the old ticket prices of $18 each. We are looking for a fourth partner to purchase 20 games, which are selected "draft-style" going around the table taking turns. Post season tickets, should we be so lucky, are divided evenly among the 4 partners. If you are interested, please call 415-652-7906. We will be happy to send you a link to "the view" from our seats.

Giants Tickets-4 Seats in Club Level Behind Home Plate-Split Season (Best Seats in Club Level) $253
We are looking for a partner or partners to split our Giants season tickets with for the 2009 season.
We own the seat licenses to the best seats in the AAA Club Level. We are directly behind home plate and on the aisle, right under Kruk and Kuip! The 4 seats are in Section 215 Row G Seats 10-13.
With the season ticket holder’s discount, the 4 seats were $253 per game in 2008. They cannot go up by more than 2% for 2009.
Let me know if you would be interested in a share of these tickets. (Prices are based on 2008 costs)
- 1/6 share (14 games) = $3,542
- 1/4 share (21 games) = $5,313
- 1/3 share (28 games) = $7,084
- 1/2 share (42 games) = $10,626
We would do a draft of the games (the Giants website has a program for this) where all the games would be included so you would most definitely get some of the most sought after games.
Call Brooke at 415-282-8385 or email me back with questions.

GIANTS-SHARE SEASON TICKETS SEC 106 ROW 12 AISLE (mission district) $1
I am offering equal shares (10 pairs of tickets per share) of our season tickets for the 2009 San Francisco Giants baseball season. Our seats are in Premium Lower Box Section 106 Row 12 on the aisle. This location is 12 rows behind first base. We will be doing a round-robin selection party at my home in January 2009. I already have 6 positions taken (4 for my partners from last year and 2 for me) and have two shares of 10 pairs left. That means that all 80 games except for Opening Day will be available to pick from. Note: Postseason rights are not included.
There will be 8 selections (one selection per share) per round and 10 rounds total. Order will be randomly selected and will continue in round robin manner. Cost is $760 for a pair of seats to 10 games (20 tickets at $38 each). This is a $1/ticket more than I pay and covers my shipping costs and having to buy the exhibition games. It is a substantial savings over the non-season ticket holder prices, even without adding the tickets.com fees. I also have the preseason games and these will be available for less money or I will give them away to charity.
Please call me or email if you are interested. This is a great opportunity to get great seats for cost!
