The line is about to get longer in the bidding for free agent left-hander CC Sabathia.
An agent familiar with the situation said Nov. 19 that he expected the San Francisco Giants to make an offer to Sabathia's agents in an effort to coax him into playing for what in essence is his hometown team.
Another agent said he expected the Los Angeles Angels also to enter the fray at some point. Because Sabathia's representatives are keeping all offers private, it wasn't known if either the Giants or Angels had submitted formal bids or merely were testing the waters.
Either way, the Brewers' already slim chances of keeping Sabathia would diminish further with California teams in play.

The Milwaukee Brewers exercised Salomon Torres' $3.75 million option on Thursday even though he announced his retirement. The Brewers plan to place Torres on the voluntary retired list on Friday, which will remove Torres from Milwaukee's 40-man roster and keep the club from having to pay his salary. Milwaukee also could have paid Torres a $300,000 buyout, but instead retains the rights of the...

A.J. Burnett must be hopelessly underpaid because he didn't think twice about telling the Toronto Blue Jays that his current contract guaranteeing him $12 million a year just wasn't going to cut it anymore. Hard to blame him, because fellow pitcher CC Sabathia figures to make double that by the time he reports to spring training a few months from now.
