The bad stuff first. The odometer broke approximately 1200-1500 miles ago. From what I've managed to read it's very common for all VDO odometers of that vintage. It stopped at 134 516. I took the instrument cluster apart to see if I could fix it and it's going to need to be replaced. The plastic cage that holds the shaft and number wheels has cracked and broken due to being brittle with age.
It has some rust. It's 24 years old and has been a daily it's whole life. There's some bubbling around the fuel door and along the doors and hatch at the moldings. There's also some minor rust through on the front inner fenders and the jack pads. There's also a minor dent on the driver's side of the hood in the front. The driver's fender is slightly bent inward too. It was like that when I got it. It never looked bad enough to me to worry about fixing. It's also be resprayed in the original anthracite gray at some point but it wasn't the highest quality of paint jobs.
The A/C works but it leaks. It had already been converted to R-134a before I got it. I charge it in the spring and it lasts me through fall.
The good. It runs fantastic. I'm still amazed sometimes at how something this old runs as smoothly and quietly as it does. That's quality German engineering for you. I had the engine replaced 2 years ago with a used one because the original engine had a rod bearing going out. I was told at the time the replacement engine had 76k miles on it. Replacement came at 124 XXX on the car. The previous owner had the transmission rebuilt at 118 000 and also had the exhaust system replaced. I replaced the front pads and rotors early fall and replaced the rear pads a year ago. Since I've had it I've installed a receiver hitch and trailer light pigtail. I've towed my 4x8 utility trailer with it many times and it tows great.
I've got a set of German made Rial Como wheels with Dunlop SP8000s that I run on it for summer. It currently has the stock wheels with Blizzaks for winter. If you want it with both sets of wheels and tires I'm asking $2400. If you want it with the just the stock wheels I'm asking $2000. I also have another set of stock wheels with no tires mounted that I cleaned up and painted that I can throw in for $200.
