You are viewing a 2001 BMW 540i M-Sport 6-Speed Manual. This is a 2 owner car that was purchased locally from Global BMW as a certified preowned car in 2003. This was one of the best years of the 5 series BMW. According to many automotive publications the E39 was the best looking and best built BMW ever. 2001 was also the first year they were equipped with the desirable clear taillight upgrade and front bumper valence upgrade. This car has 141k miles on it but rides and drives like it has a quarter of that. It's as solid as a bank vault and feels like it's built out of one piece of billet. This car has the desirable M-sport package with the manual transmission and sport seats with thigh extensions. It has all of the standard BMW equipment like memory seats sunroof cd player tilt/telescoping steering power seats xenon lights etc. It has the tan leather interior that I would rate a 9 out of 10 as far as overall condition goes. I would rate the exterior condition a 8 out of 10. It has had no major accidents only a small rear bumper repair due to a parking lot encounter and the front bumper has a very small scrape from a parking space stop. There is only one or two small dings in the body and a few small surface scratches that is normal for the age. I will list below some of the other notable good/bad items on the vehicle as well.
The Good:
1. The water pump and thermostat were just replaced. This is a common failure on these engines so you won't have to replace it for a long time.
2. The coolant reservoir sensor and bleeder screw were also replaced not long ago.
3. The rear tires are pretty new.
4. The rear brakes were replaced at the same time as the rear tires.
5. It just had a fresh oil and filter change.
6. New engine air filter
7. Several other maintenance items have been done/replaced in the last 30k miles.
8. Every option on this car works as intended. All of the power windows locks mirrors sunroof everything.
9. All of the pixels in the ip cluster and radio are working perfectly! Believe it or not
10. Still have all of the original owner's manuals and even the window sticker.
The Bad:
1. The front tires will need replaced soon.
2. The valve cover gaskets are leaking oil. This is another common fault on these cars but it hasn't been bad enough to justify changing them. No oil has to be added in between oil changes.
3. The engine idles a little rough when cold only and goes away completely once it's warmed up a few minutes. I've also found this to be a common trait on these V-8's and no warning lights have been set.
4. The power steering reservoir has a very slow leak.
As you can see above that I like to disclose everything about a car so there are no surprises for the potential buyer when they come to view the car. I'm actually helping a friend sell this vehicle because he travels out of town every week and is too busy to try and sell it himself. I am not a car broker though. He wanted to keep it because he loved driving it so much but it just sat in his garage most of the time after he replaced it as his daily driver. I have several more high resolution pictures but can't upload them to craigslist so please feel free to e-mail me and I can send them to you. If you come and look at this car though you'll probably drive home with it! You will be hard pressed to find a 540i M-Sport in better condition for the money. Asking $8900 O.B.O. E-mail is best or my direct # at work is 678-867-6667. Thanks
